Potty Training

So I've decided that I need to at least introduce Eli to Potty Training. So I'm SLOWLY accomplishing that task. That is, yesterday I bought a little frog toilet for Eli. Well, he's certainly curious, but I'm a little worried about what he'll actually use it for. He sat on it all day yesterday (clothed for now) and he drug it around. Basically it's as though he thinks it's another bike without wheels. He even slid it over to the door, like he does his bike, when I said we needed to pick up Daddy. Hopefully, he'll eventually uses it for the right purpose.

I still need to figure out what to use as incentive. I thought Jelly Beans from Costco, but they were way too expensive even with a coupon. It made me sad that I have not found the Belly Flop jelly beans at any store around our house.

Oh good luck with the potty training Carrie. I'm so worried about potty training Grant. Keep me updated on his progressive and give me any tips you may have.

Funny you should post this. I have been thinking about the dreaded potty training too. Good luck! I hope you find some good solutions! Please do share once you figure something out, I too would love tips!

I am so not looking forward to that stage. I know diapers are super expensive...even if I buy the Target brand. But, it's so convenient to not have to worry about running Emmy to the closest potty. Good luck! I'm sure it will go great for you :). Crossing my fingers!

We are potty training too. I wish I had a magic secret-lol. It sounds like he is at least sitting on it with clothes-which is good:)

I am so tired these days I wish I would have started it earlier-but these kids usually make up their own minds about when it will happen. Good luck.

I'm not sure I have any secrets other than having him go a lot. Many people have said to have an "open door policy" where Eli can watch mommy and daddy go potty. I'm also not sure how to potty train a boy. We've had fun putting certain books in a basket on the back of the toilet for Ellie to read only while she's on the potty. Positive praise is just about the only thing I can tell you. Really have a mini-party every time he goes. Jump up and down and tell everyone around that Eli went pee pee on the potty. Once you go to big boy underwear, don't ever turn back no matter how many accidents- and there will be many. :) Also, we kept Ellie in a pullup at night just in case. I've heard nighttime training is a whole different story. She never really had nighttime accidents ever though. Just be patient and better than I was about screaming. It's so much better once it's over. :)

I'm not even tempted with Svea. Her only interest is to flush the toilet. I'm waiting till she can talk better and actually communicate with me. But since Ezra wasn't potty trained till 4 and 3 months and Levi wasn't potty trained till 3 1/2 you can probably see how my parenting style goes. And even then I had to buy a wrist watch that I could set 8 alarms on to remind me to have Ezra and Levi go potty every 2 hours whether they told me or not. That worked the best to stop the accidents once they were use to going on the toilet. We called it the potty watch. Grandma Stonehocker said that it isn't about training the kids it's about training the grownups. lol Good luck.
