Playing Catch-up

Aah! It seems like it's been forever since I've been able to sit down. The adventures have been many and to say that I haven't been home for a full week would be about accurate. It all started on a hot and muggy Monday morning, last week (June 25th). With Girl's Camp starting the next day, I had a lot to do. I never really understood or appreciated all the work a leader has to do before camp can even start. Planning the camp and then getting their own house in order so it can run somewhat smoothly when she's gone. After mailing internship paperwork, buying last minute camping equipment, and grocery shopping for the rest of Aaron's week I went to bed with a good five hours before having to get up to pick up girls.
Now Camp is something that I always looked forward to in Young Women's. The conflict of interest with this girl's camp and my internship was already a source of concern. However, when you have to become the strict adult at girl's camp, it makes it a lot less pleasant. I just have to say that rules are rules and when people follow them, it makes camp a whole lot better for everyone involved. What's really funny is that before camp the rules were set out and the girls said they'd have no problem following them. All in all, it was an okay camp, but not as good as I hoped it would be. This might also be true because every single one of the leaders in our ward, was really emotional. The camp director went through a scare with her unborn baby the first few days of camp and we were all very grateful for the priesthood and their worthiness as she went to the hospital to find out that her baby was doing beautifully. My first councelor has been having a rough time as her father is very sick and she's been trying to find out more information about the treatment he will be receiving and its affectiveness. As for me, the morning of the second day of camp I found out that my last surviving grandparent, my Grandpa Morey, past away. We all had crazy emotions so every little thing was very trying.
Then, a blessing in disguise! While the nearly consistant rain caused alot of the problems with the girls' attitudes, it also brought an unexpected blessing! Many of the other wards' girls had all their stuff get drenched. The lack of sun to fully dry these items out caused the stake to decide to leave camp a day early. Yes! I was more than ready to go home to see Aaron after our first days apart since our marriage. However, we were not to get home so easily. On our way home, my councelor's car got a flat tire. Even with this hiccup, we got almost home in good time when her donut also went flat. Apparently the police officer was incorrect when he said that the donut would make it back to DC. Luckily this tire went flat fairly close to the church building so we got all the girls home and she was able to get AAA to help. Wow, there's never a dull moment! Okay, so all in all girl's camp wasn't all bad; but with my state of mind now and at the moment, I don't know if I will go to camp next year.
After getting home on Friday at about 11:30pm Aaron and I looked online to get tickets to Louisville so I could attend the graveside service for my grandpa. It was a wonderful service. It's always sad to see someone you love so much leave this world, but then I remember the plan of salvation and know that if I do my part, I will see them again. While it doesn't take all the hurt away, it helps. I also got to see alot of cousins that I hadn't seen in years. It was good to build those friendships a little more. It's just too bad that it takes something like a funeral to bring a family together. Hopefully we'll do better at getting together more often.
Some funny things happened though. In leaving Kentucky, I set off the alarms and with the heightened security I had to step in the little glass area and get searched. It was quite the scenerio and my mom, sister and I thought it was quite funny. When I got to Detroit, my connecting flight was delayed and was probably going to be canceled. I really was worried that after this emotionally strained week, I would be stuck in an airport for a night. Luckily they announced a flight to DC that was leaving in five minutes and if we had flexible plans (because it was going to a different airport in DC) we could transfer to that flight. Happy I only had a carry-on I got the transfer and jumped on the flight. Oh I am so happy to be home. Now I have a week to prepare to start my internship.

Goodness Carrie, it sounds like you had a crazy week full of emotion! I am so glad you survived. I am sure we had surprises at girls camp, but I am not sure if we ever had so many things go wrong. I am sure you can look back and laugh at a few things later. I wish we could have seen you at the funeral, but hopefully we'll see you soon. I'll cross my fingers.
We love ya and send lots of hugs.

I once had to get pulled aside at airport security because my heavy duty metal back brace set off the alarms. Judging by that photo of you getting wanded, I'd say you handled the situation much better than I did. :)

Haha...I get the feeling that the photographer from when you got wanded was pretty hot! Just kidding! You'll learn never to wear bobbipins to the airport, won't you? Ha! It was great seeing you! Love ya!
