Oh, these days are really rough on me. Thanksgiving break was heaven but somehow all that rest seems nonexistent now. Aaron keeps saying that he's almost done with his big projects so no more night shifts. Yeah, I'll believe that when I see it ;)
Today he informed me that he's not coming home tonight and to just come get him at the office tomorrow morning so he can shower before another long day. Great, putting the kids down alone is never easy, but Eli's been acting up lately so it's especially hard.
After cleaning the front room (a feat in and of itself) and dinner, I took the kids to the mall in search of some stocking stuffers. I let them play on the little rides and we even got a treat. All seemed to be going swell until Eli found out that Daddy wasn't going to be home tonight. OH, MY tantrum!
When we got home he refused to come inside. So I decided to take Anna up, and then drag him up after. I took Anna up, left her crying for what I thought would be one minute at the most, and went down to get Eli. Upon coming back up, I found I was locked out of the house. The door wasn't locked, but our handle is weird in that the handle lock has to be in a certain position in order for the turner to catch and pull the pin back. It wasn't in that position. So, Anna's on the inside of the door crying and I'm on the outside trying to figure out what to do in this situation. Is it a 9-1-1 situation? I tried to get the information for the regular police department, but somehow got disconnected when they transferred me. At that point I thought, "I don't care if it's the proper call." I called 9-1-1 and got the sweet fire department to come and save the day. They put a ladder up to our balcony and according to them, scared Anna half out of her whits when they came through the back door. Poor little traumatized girl. Assured that I made the right call, they left us all a lot happier. Thank you Santa Clara Fire Department!
Now for the bedtime routine. Thinking that maybe Eli'd used up all his tantrum juice I suggested getting ready for bed. BOY was I WRONG! It's over now and he's asleep. THANK GOODNESS!

Wow. That is quite a bit of Chaos! I think you made the right call with the fire department, and that probably lifted Eli's spirits. I could only imagine the call to Aaron to report your exciting night. :)
You. Poor. Thing. Oh my goodness! What an ordeal. I wish I could have been there for you for moral support. So glad that the Fire Department was able to save the day! I would have panicked too if I were in that situation! A lot of times Emmy will fall asleep in the car on the way home from where ever, and I end up taking her sleeping body inside and leaving Jack in the car for a minute or so while I put her down. I'll make sure to always keep my keys with me just in case my door gets locked! So glad everything was okay :)
So sorry about your horrible day. I hope Aaron's projects really are almost done. We can't wait to see you next month!
I feel so bad for you! What a horrible, no good, very bad day!!! So glad that everyone is ok, and hopefully Anna isn't too traumatized! It sounds like you need a vacation! Just a couple more weeks!!
Carrie -
I happened upon you blog via Facebook. Fun to read a few of your posts and catch up a bit on your life. It's been a long time but I just wanted to say hi.

Geez, that is a bit traumatic just reading!
That's when I'd totally emotionally eat some sugar/fat combo, and be stinking annoyed for at least the next day.
Sorry!
