Is almost 10 months too young to start throwing temper tantrums? If so then Eli is way beyond his months!!
Today after going to the dollar store, where I bought Eli a squishy ball with those spiky things, Eli was playing with his new ball. In his excitement he would stretch the spikes out and some of them would rip off. When I went to pick them up so he wouldn't try to eat them and choke, I saw that he had something in his mouth. Terrified that I hadn't moved quick enough I swept his mouth with my finger. There was something in there, but it wasn't part of his toy. BOY was he mad at me! He lunged forward and proceeded to hit my chest with his little palms crying and scolding in his little voice. I was so surprised! My little Eli throwing a tantrum? He's always so happy and smiley.
Anyway, is this normal or do I have something to be worried about?

Nope. Some start as early as 7-8 months. I know it shocked me when Steven first threw a temper tantrum. It is normal though.
I'd say you're lucky it only started at 10 months. My daughter started when she was born. She would get so mad wanting to eat she was always pushing me away and wouldn't realize what she wanted was JUST RIGHT THERE. Same with her binky. I have to bounce her and calm her down before I can give her what I know she wants, because she is too caught up in throwing a fit!
Your baby does seem super smiley though, what a wonderful reward!!!
Welcome to toddler-hood!
He's normal. The tantrums associated with the "terrible twos" begin usually before kids turn 1, and I'm told that the year between 1 and 2 is actually harder than the year between 2 and 3. My experience so far is limited, but I'd say that so far it seems pretty true. The tantrums change and develop as they get older, but once the kid is able to communicate better, the tantrums get a little easier to manage.
Bring on the moods. At least with my girls it started early-especially Haylee. She wasnt' so mellow after 4 months. Now I am sure she'll out do Elise in the Drama area. She even pulls hair and pinches with her fists. I had bruises a few weeks ago from her fingers squeezing my arm, I took a pop up book away from her and she let me know it wasn't cool. I don't think I have ever screamed so hard in my life it hurt so bad. Crazy stuff Carrie. So if I am watchful at Yellowstone when she is around Eli you know why. She is sweet, but has some spunk in her.
Being a outside-looking parent I would advise swift and harsh action. A swift smack to his face or even a punch would do the trick. they tend to cry after you do this but the lesson is learned. Never too young to start discipline I say!
Dr Huesos, I'm shocked and appalled by your parenting methods. Please provide me with your address so I might call child services. and know where to send the parenting magazines.
