Getting to Know Our Eli

It's only been 2 1/2 weeks since Eli was born!! Can I say it feels like it's been an eternity already?! I hope that doesn't make it sound like I'm not enjoying being a mom, BUT it does seem like he's been here for longer than 2 1/2 weeks! Maybe it's just the fact that I feel like it's taking an eternity to recover and get used to this baby, living off no sleep, and nursing! I'm also trying to get to know this little guy whos only activities are sleep, eat, poop/pee, and cry. I know it will take some time and I'm enjoying everybit of it so here's some things I've learned about Eli so far.

He's a grunter... or a snarler. Every time he's done eating he grunts a lot or he's snarling at me for moving him.

He smiles but it's mostly in his sleep and he has a very cute crooked smile! I wish we could have caught it on camera by now, but we can't seem to manage it. At least he's having sweet dreams!

He loves to flail his arms when Mommy is trying to feed him. Thanks Amy for the tip. Last nights feedings went 100 times better than before. He didn't like me holding his sleeve in my mouth to keep his arm out of the way, but it sure made things go faster! Yeah ;)

He's a slow eater! It really does take forever... sometimes over an hour with all the interuptions and burping.

He is either very concerned about life or he's very curious! He's always looking at us askance and sometimes he stares at things with a look of "What's this and should I eat it?"

Our Thinker

He loves to be cuddled, rocked, swung, shushed, and sung to. He often fights sleep until we find which one of these things (or a combination of the above) that he wants.

He still doesn't like his baths at first, but a few seconds after he's in there he is enjoying it.

He is not a huge fan of pacifiers- at least not on a consistent basis.

That's Eli so far and we'll see how his personality develops. He's already so big though. He still fits in his newborn outfits BUT he looks bigger already! I wish that they could just learn to crawl and walk and never get any bigger. They'd look so cute running around when they're this small. It makes me think of my sister Britt who was walking at 9 months and she was tiny. So cute!! Anyway, I'm already sad that he's getting so big.

Already starting bad habits!

Here is another Halloween Costume from my mom. It glows in the dark too, but we couldn't get a good picture of it.

Yay! Pictures of him with his eyes open. I was starting to wonder if this baby ever woke up because every picture before he had his eyes closed! I'm so excited to meet him in 6 days!

I had to laugh at Eli picking his nose-too funny. Those are cute pictures Carrie!! He sounds like a spunky little guy full of grunts.

After you called I thought of more "advice". I know it is all so wonderful-huh-all the advice you get as a new mom?
And You are such a Beautiful new mommy!

For what it's worth, You can also use a blanket when you feed him to swaddle his arm down to help hold it against his body to keep it from swinging around when you are trying to latch on, and you can also try to slip his hand between your nursing garment or bra area-I know it sounds weird-but it worked for Elise more than it did for Haylee.

Oh, and for burping Haylee I also had to switch between burping positions-but sometimes I still wouldn't get any burps.

Anyways, hope your days of "sleeping better" happen soon.
He is a cute little guy:)
I think mommyhood is THE hardest job in the world. It is so rewarding at times, but takes SO much out of you. You are Doing Great!

I am so glad to see pictures of him with his eyes open, and I agree he does look bigger already. He is so cute, and you look so good for just having a baby. I am so jealous, you already look as small as you were before you got pregnant.
