Close but Not Quite There

Yesterday was quite an exciting day! It finally rained and cooled off the muggy outdoors. We also had my cousin over for dinner! It was great because he's lived in DC all summer and is leaving in two weeks. I'm glad we got him over when we could. The real excitement happened later that night.

It was calm and quiet in the Stonestrong (my nickname for us) apartment. Aaron and Carrie were cuddling listening to a book on cd. Whoooosh, Aaron sat up straight. Looking straight ahead with fire in his eyes!

"What is it?" Carrie asks worried.

"The mouse." Those two words freeze Carrie in her seat. This was it, their mortal enemy had returned to harass them once again. There had been many battles with the mice kingdom, and it looked as if they were not going to give up.

"Where? In the kitchen?"

"No, under our TV center."

The battle lines were clearly drawn at the entry to the kitchen. This mouse had entered enemy territory. They were closer than ever to nabbing this creature and making it another example to its species that this apartment was unvanquishable.

Carrie grabbed the broom and headed off the exit to the kitchen while Aaron freed the tv center from all extraneous material. Slowly Aaron lifted the side of the center and the mouse fled to one corner, it's red beady eyes full of fear. Aaron lifted it a second time and the mouse attempted an escape but was thwarted by the forest of twigs that made up the broom.

"Carrie, I need you to either lift the center, or catch the mouse with the box." Aaron was
urgent in his request but it had no affect on Carrie's phobia of a mouse attacking her. (The Hunter virus is a scary thing!)

"Aaron I can't!" Carrie plead. "If I try either, the mouse will get away for sure!"

Aaron saw the pain in her face and thought. While thinking of another plan, he wanted to keep an eye on the location of the fiendish rodent. He lifted up the center again and this time, the mouse made a run for it. Swinging the broom to try to head off the mouse, Carrie hurtled over kitchen chairs. Alas, the mouse ran into the air conditioning vent where they were unable to retrieve it.

The mouse had made a narrow escape and while Aaron and Carrie didn't eliminate a threat to their home, they remain optimistic that they will succeed in the end.

Carrie you are so dramatic and should write a book about the life a mouse. How funny, I loved the picture-ha ha. You should fight to the death!

From josh
Carrie where is your picture. The one where you are in a fearful fright. You need to live up to your family motto "Invictus Maneo" It is only a mouse. Have you ever tried a bb gun they work wonders, plus you can be 10 feet away. Don't worry about holes in the walls that is why they made wall mud.

"Invictus Maneo" is for the end. We'll get the mouse (without BB guns) and then I will be the conquering hero! I think I will fight to the death, Amy. Thanks.

So funny! Rick says try peanut butter on a trap! It works every time....but of course then we wouldn't be able to hear any more of your mouse tales!
