Well, for a quick update, Aaron is still sick. We are hoping this flu subsides soon. I'm never letting Aaron get the flu shot again! So much for trying to protect Eli from it.
Tomorrow is another pediatrician appointment and I'm not very excited about it because poor little "Bubs" will get four shots! (We have tons and tons of nicknames for Eli, this is the one I call him most)
Eli fights sleep tooth and nail. It's getting frustrating and I'm trying to find new approaches. If anyone has any ideas let me know. We already do what they say to do to calm a fussy baby (swaddle, swing, shoose, etc.) He's not hungry, no dirty diaper, and he's not colicky (isn't crying the whole time, just when we are holding him in a position he might actually fall asleep in).
Okay now for another game of tag. This is the eights tag.
EIGHT THINGS THAT MAKE ME FEEL GOOD: When I finish my To Do list for the day (rare). Cuddling with Eli when he's fallen asleep finally. Finally get a piano piece down to where I think it would pass inspection (I would say perfect, but that has NEVER happened). When a meal I cook for guest actually turns out (I'm cursed in this area). When Eli coos at me and we have conversations. Reading the conference Ensign. Getting hugs from Aaron. When I find an AWESOME sale on things I need.
EIGHT THINGS I DID YESTERDAY: Fed Eli (I'm his personal cow, who wouldn't want that?!). Ate my regular oatmeal for breakfast (down cholesterol, down). Read a little of Twilight in order to get all psyched up for the movie (I'm silly, I know). Started dinner for us and our friend Gretchen. Went to church and got a kick out of the primary kids! Took dinner over to Gretchen's place so Aaron wouldn't get her sick. Watched the Amazing Race and Pushing Up Daisies. Tried to get Eli to go to sleep.
EIGHT FAVORITE EATS/DRINKS: Hot Chocolate (any chocolate beverage), Peach Fresca, Home Made Chicken Noodle soup, Applebee's Blonde Brownie (any brownie for that matter), cranberry sauce, lemonade, chimichungas (spelling) enchilada style, Raspberries.
EIGHT THINGS ON MY WISH LIST: The opportunity to travel outside the continent. That neither Eli nor any of our future children will break my heart by falling away from the gospel. To pay off student loans. To find to perfect Christmas gifts for family. To pass my RD exam. To be like Elder Height and his wife: Aaron and I pass away within days of eachother so neither of us has to be alone long (best way unless one of us has to go young). To be a decent photographer. To run a 10K someday (I don't think I'll ever do marathons).
EIGHT THINGS I LOVE ABOUT FALL: The trees (the east is most gorgeous in the fall, Arlington Cemetary especially!!). The holidays. The smell of harvest. Hot chocolate/cider. Family get togethers. Getting to wear sweaters. The feeling of nostalgia I get (happens with every season though). My birthday.
EIGHT FAVORITE TV SHOWS: House, Amazing Race, The Office, Bones, Pushing up Daisies (a recent find), Scrubs, Gilmore Girls, The Closer (haven't watched it recently though)
EIGHT THINGS I'M LOOKING FORWARD TO: Our Christmas trip to Utah. The BYU vs Utah game. Eating Thanksgiving dinner with friends. Eli sleeping more than four hours at a time. Finally settling down somewhere for a more permanent period of time. The Twilight movie. Our tentative trip to KY to see Jared and Jen this next spring. Seeing the DC temple Christmas lights.
EIGHT FRIENDS TO TAG: I don't want to tag eight. So if you feel like this is a fun thing you want to do, consider yourselve tagged.

I would just like to say sorry on behalf of my husbands comment that is soon to come in. so sorry carrie....
I have a suggestion for getting little Eli to sleep. I know I'm not a mother but I have heard various things from my patients regarding how they get their baby to sleep, here are a few, and please, try to take them seriously. 1- Whiskey- It's great to calm baby Eli down and give him a good sized liver that will help him throughout his shortened life.I hear it's great for teething too! 2- Benadryl- if you don't have any whiskey you can always go with this sleep aid- don't worry it'll only affect his memory- and its works great on plane rides. 3- Ambien- you'll need a doctors prescription for this one- just fake like you can't sleep and get the dr. to prescribe it to you. Just cut the pills in half and grind them up and put in his baby food, he'll never know- don't use with the alcohol- ambien may cause cause some long term side effects- dependence, memory problems, behavior problems, etc. Anyway, I hope you have learned something and I hope this helps.
Carrie, I love reading your blog. I especially love seeing the pictures of Eli. You and Aaron make beautiful babies.
I have a request. Could you email me your new address. We are attempting to put a list together for Clark's wedding reception invites. My email is jan@stanfill.org
Thanks.
Well, I know it is SO frustrating. Haylee has started crying during her really tired hours-and nothing seems to work.
Sometimes just lying her in the crib with her blanket will work. Turning on music . . . I don't know. These babies are something else.
Hope Aaron gets better soon. That scares me. Haylee had hers, but we have yet to have ours. I really don't want to get sick or bring it near Haylee-
love ya
You know what? We had to resort to the "cry it out" method. It's hard to hear your baby cry, but if all his needs are met, crying will just tire him out that much more and he'll get used to not depending on anyone to get to sleep. I don't regret it at all. It works every time, and my pediatrician even supports it. A lot of people feel like their baby will feel abandoned and unloved, but give him lots of love while he's awake and he'll be ok. And if you really can't manage the crying, go hop in the shower or listen to your ipod or something. He'll be fine, and it won't make you a bad mom. Also, if he has his own room it helps. And white noise helps too. Take or leave the advice, though. Ultimately you do what you feel best about, and things will work out fine. He sure is a cutie!
