Metro Woes

Now I love the metro here in DC but there are still some glitches in the system; such as getting directions from the metro to where you are going. Without the mountains from Utah I don't know which way is North, South, East, or West. So when the directions tell me to head N on 10th St. I basically just guess and hope it's right. Well, today I got 0 for 2 which turned it into a very busy day.

First I had an appointment to get my immunizations. The appointment was at 10 am and from the directions given me, I should have gotten there around 9:45. So I was pretty worried when I got off the metro stop at 10:08 where upon I frantically tried to find the road the directions said to take. Unbeknownst to me, to get to the road stated in the directions I had to take two other roads! Why weren't these mentioned? I have no idea. Luckily the nurse from the clinic called and asked if I was coming and I was able to get directions from her. Yeah for nice people! Anyway, a bunch of signed forms, four shots, and a check later, I was headed for a 1pm interview with one of my preceptors. I do love that you can ride the metro all day long and still pay the same price as your original destination (as long as you don't actually exit the metro station). This gives people like me a free error when we get so caught up in our books that we miss our stop. Anyway, backtracking and finally getting to my destination, I don't know which way down the road to go. So I pick the direction from the uninformative area maps outside the station. After walking for about ten minutes and not seeming to get any closer to the hospital, I finally ask directions. I was walking in the wrong direction! Luckily I had the interviewer's phone number so I wasn't completely ill-mannered. I got there 20 minutes later and looking very hot and sweaty. Hopefully that wont make them change their mind.
Anyway, the walk in the wrong direction lead me across a very interesting house. It was completely round. Not igloo round but the house was round with a cone for a roof! It was pretty darn cool. It made me wonder what a house that shape looked like on the inside. Would it be a one room floor? Would there be rooms that had walls that made the layout like a wheel with spokes? It had an upstairs. Did it have a spiral staircase? I remember an activity in Jr High School's TLC wood and metal shop where we had to make layouts for a house. I think I want to do that for this little round house. It was cute. I liked it.

Yes I conquered! At least I won the battle. We'll see about the war.
