Easter Blessings

Easter morning Eli came down stairs and promptly wanted to watch a show. This is our usual Sunday morning tussle but I was prepared with a special treat. I had gone to LDS.org and the home page video was "He is Risen". Perfect! We watched that together and at some points I thought, "How do I explain this to him [what was happening to Jesus] without making him upset?" We'd explained it to him before, but never with a visual movie portraying the crucifixion. So I told him about the people wanting to kill Jesus and they did, but that it was okay because he came alive again. I didn't know how much he got out of it, but it was the best I could do.

Anyway, the day progressed as only a crazy Sunday can... getting dinner started, getting the kids dressed (Anna being a bit sick and clingy), me having to go early because Choir was singing in Sacrament, hoping Eli would have a good week in primary, etc.

When I picked up Eli from Sunbeams, his teacher informed me of his hitting a girl in class and not apologizing. Luckily I finally got him to apologize and give a hug, but wishing he would learn to be kind.

This morning I got this e-mail from his teacher that made my day, if not week:

Carrie,

I forgot to tell you the good moment with Eli today. During Sharing Time, Carly was talking about Easter, and she was having the kids put up pictures, such as the atonement, crucifixion, and the empty tomb. Eli saw the pictures and said, "Jesus died. The bad people wanted to kill him and he died, and that is where he died (he pointed to the cross)." And then I said, but then he came alive again, and he said, "Yes, Jesus is alive, and someday Jesus coming to my house, to see my mom and my dad and me and my little sister." So I think he did hear what you had taught him.

That totally just made me cry! What a sweet email to have gotten from his teacher to let you know what a testimony Eli has already! You are doing an awesome job! I hope that I'm helping Emmy to know her Savior as much as you're helping Eli. What an example you are Carrie! Thanks for sharing this. It touched my heart :)

That's great, Carrie! So glad his teacher thought to let you know.
And they do absorb things we teach them when we least expect it.
