Living here in California has it's ups and downs. One downer for me is that there are two seasons here (so I've heard), summer and rainy. Sadly I've only seen summer and I'm missing my autumn fix of harvest brisk air and colors. I know that Maryland was AMAZING with autumn colors so that doesn't surprise anyone, but even Utah is a thousand times more colorful than here in it's autumn array. Luckily the mornings are cool enough to require a sweater.
Aaron, knowing my love of autumn, decided to cheer me up when a co-worker mentioned apple hill. It's a group of apple orchards that all put together events and fun things during apple picking season. So on a Saturday, a few weeks ago, we went on a search for autumn out near Sacramento. I'm so happy to say that we found it... mostly (the weather was more mid august)! It was amazing! The different farms had tents around like a fair with different handmade crafts.

Some had petting zoos which Eli LOVED. We also enjoyed the scent of harvest in the air from the apples and pumpkins that were sold.
We had apple pie and a HUGE apple dumpling. We tasted apple cider and all the different flavors of jams and jellies on apple slices instead of crackers (really a much better way to sample I think). We enjoyed picking apples which Eli got into as well.
He got hold of an apple and wouldn't let go. The smell must have been so nice that he couldn't wait to sample it's yumminess!
I'm happy to report that Eli ate that WHOLE apple on the way home from our trip. Thanks Aaron for such a wonderful gift!
Halloween was fun too. Eli was a little lion and Aaron and I were ourselves.
We went to the trunk or treat and played games. I wish I had taken my camera because Aaron had Eli play the game Donut on a String and it was pretty hilarious! Too bad. We handed out candy and then took Eli home for a needed nap to prepare for our evening events. That night we went over to a friend's house and went trick or treating with other kids in our ward and then back again for a ghoulish meal! Eli was a little worried by all the kids at first but then he got into it (by not crying, and sometimes cracking a smile). I love Halloween! Now I get to look forward to Thanksgiving and my impatient waiting to visit family in Utah!

That apple hill place you went to looks like it is so much fun! As of right now...I would love to be in California! Utah is freezing with the snow, and I'm just not ready yet. It was like eighty degrees two days ago! It looks like you guys are settling in though. We miss you! Hope all is well!
CUTE costume . . . goodness. Love the little lion nose and wiskers:)
I remember going to an apple orchard out here . . . when I was very little, so I don't remember where it was, but it was fun. Looks like you found a place to make a tradition each year:)
just come visit us here during the Fall-that is so sad they don't have an Autum season . . . we are excited to see you guys in a few weeks!!
Cute little Lion! I can't wait to see him running around Mom & Dad's house next week! He's going to chase Sunny around with Haylee, I can just already see it. Poor Sunny but maybe she'll lose some weight running away from them!
Oh yeah...did he eat the core of the apple too?
What a cute little boy!! I LOVE his lion costume!!! I am glad you got to enjoy a taaste of autumn. At least you don't get snow!!
no, he didn't eat the core of the apple. Good thing too, I'd have worried he would choke on the seeds.
