Before
We lived in an apartment complex close to the metro BUT just across the border of the SE of DC. Any of you who are familiar with the DC area know that in the attempt to clean up DC all the hoodlums have moved across this SE border. Needless to say even the Hoodlums called where we live the "hood". It was right on a main road that was lined with liquor stores. Not just any liquor stores, but combo stores such as "chinese buffet/ liquor".

Living in this part of town made it difficult for me to go places without being harrassed in some way. Yes, I'm married. My husband is white (does that answer your question of whether I like black men?). No I don't want to buy the newly sharpened but half sized, chewed on pencil that you are selling out of a school box. I'm not going to buy anything out of the back of your car. . . . Get where I'm going??

Now we live a further south than before. This puts us in the nicer part of Prince George's County. We live in a residential zone so we are surrounded by other families in a quiet neighborhood. I think the closest liquor stores might be over where we used to live !!! Just kidding. The only harrassement I get is the occasional snub from younger teens that live down the street (hey, I'm a stranger so I'm not surprised). The neighbors are friendly and I feel completely safe walking around our neighborhood unattended.

Our apartment was spacious for two with lots and lots of closet space. The prized attributes of this apartment were the HUGE windows that really upgraded it from the "pit of dispair" that was our previous apartment (living in utter darkness doesn't damages a person emotionally).

It was a great price which drew us there to begin with but the worst part of everything was... the flora and fauna of the building. Okay so just the rodents!!! We had mice. I know that most of you know this and have been entertained by my previous blogs of mice hunts and floor mouse hockey, etc. GROSS.

Our apartment here is even more spacious! It is a basement apartment BUT it opens directly into the back yard so it doesn't require another depressing cavelike name. Although I think I'd probably name it the Heart of Darkness if it did. (Pladgerized from a book I know).

These are actual pics of our apartment (before we moved in). This is a pic of the master bedroom. It's even bigger than it looks here!

The dining area. We are using that table as our kitchen table (it was VERY interesting to see what stuff we'd given away before we moved to Cali... apparently our dining table was one of them!)
Okay, so the pests here aren't so great either. Crickets do their fair share of driving me crazy, but they haven't been a problem in a while (cross our fingers). I'll trade the mice for crickets any day of the week! The other neighboring animals include deer, toads, and the occasional ground hog. All of them keep their distance and are really fun to see.

Your new apartment is great -- of course I was never in your old one, but I know enough about Branch Avenue/Naylor Road to know that it is not a good place. When we first moved here we couldn't find the Anacostia Metro Station so we took Naylor Road metro instead - that is until one day we were scared out of our wits by someone yelling obsenities at us as we were trying to get in our car. NEVER AGAIN!!
Your apartment looks really cute! I'm glad that you two were able to get something nicer and in a better neighborhood too! I'll forgive you for not posting any pictures of Eli, just this once though.
