Big Basins Big Trees

This last weekend Aaron and I made our way to Big Basin. It is only 25 miles away but with all the switch backs it was over an hour drive. The country side was beautiful though and it had that wonderful forest scent that all the trees in Maryland haven't been able to reproduce. It was a wonderful drive and Aaron took it slow enough that I didn't get sick.
Big Basin is the home of giant redwood trees. It was absolutely amazing! I haven't seen trees that big before except in pictures. So it was really neat to see.
The trees are so tall! It makes you wonder what it would be like to explore this area for the first time!
This is me hugging a tree. I don't think hugging a tree this size would stop someone from chopping a tree down from the other side.

A lot of the trees are hollow at the base. This is a picture of the inside of a tree. We also went inside the trees.
Their roots must go deep because I wouldn't think anything else would keep them standing.

This is the largest tree in the forest called the Mother of the Forest. I had to take two pictures.
This is me just at the opening to the inside of the Mother of the Forest (I think...I might be mistaken).
The different trees also had some crazy features like these knots. It reminds me of the tree in Earnest Scared Stupid where the troll lives. I know, a stupid movie to be reminded of, but it does.
This tree might have some disease but it still produced this cool effect on the bark. Well, I hope you've had your fill of pictures and I hope that they've convinced you that if you come to California that you'll make Big Basin and its amazing trees part of your trip.
