I love Valentine's Day. Not because Aaron and I go all out for the holiday, but because I've always had someone make it a very special day every single year of my life. When I was young ALL the way through college, and even now, my dad has been the Valentine's Day guru. He'd either by each child an individual miniature chocolate cake, or we'd get the traditional and oh so looked forward to box of See's chocolates. My dad being who he is, made all of his kids feel remembered and special at Valentine's Day. I've never felt left out on this holiday because I would, and will ALWAYS be my daddy's valentine.
Oh, then I met my sweet heart Aaron. Our first Valentine's day was interesting. Aaron had never had a girlfriend at Valentine's Day and I learned later that he had considered breaking up with me so he wouldn't have to fret over a gift! You'd think he would have known I was the one he wanted to marry then since he liked me too much to break up with me! He did a great job though. That was the one and only time he's gotten me flowers (a miniature rose bush). He also got me the book, "Five People You Meat in Heaven". That started our wonderful past time of reading together. Something we do more now by listening to books on tape.
Our second Valentine's Day was two years after our first (the Valentine's in between we were just barely starting to date again). By this time he had proposed and I don't really remember if we did anything. Oh-well, we were so busy with school, work, graduation, meeting family, and wedding plans that I hardly remember anything from that semester.
Our first married Valentine's Day was great. I wasn't working so I made french dip sandwiches and chocolate dipped strawberries along with Martinelli's sparkling grape juice. We had a candle lit dinner! Aaron got me TWO pounds of my favorite See's chocolates (rum nougat) to go along with the ones from my parents. It was fabulous!
This year will not be horribly mushy or anything. We are both working and going to school, so we are going to go to lunch Saturday instead. I got my chocolate's (there's a story that goes along with that, but I can't tell you until Monday). Aaron didn't want candy so I'm letting him pick a movie and we'll watch it tonight. I also got a wonderful Valentine from my little sister.
So, I want you to know I love Valentine's Day, no matter who is my Valentine. Just because it's a fun day to call, write, tell, show those you care about that they've made your life more full. I love you all as well. Have a great day!
